You can check a PSC’s dates by signing in to Companies House’s service2.

A director who is also a PSC gives the code twice

Many small company owners are both. They still verify only once and get one personal code3, but they give it twice, once for each role1:

  1. As a director, in the company’s confirmation statement.
  2. As a PSC, separately, in the 14 days that start the day after the confirmation statement date.

How the code is given

The PSC, or someone acting for them, gives Companies House the company number, the PSC’s personal code and a statement that their identity is verified2. If the PSC hasn’t verified yet, they start with Companies House identity verification: it’s free through GOV.UK One Login. If they’ve lost their code, read where to find your personal code.

If it’s late

Not giving the code on time may be an offence, and can lead to a fine or a financial penalty. Companies House will also show a note against the PSC’s name on the public register2. If something stops the PSC verifying in time, they can ask for a 14-day extension, but only before the deadline passes2.

PSCs that are companies

A relevant legal entity, such as a holding company, has no personal code of its own. Companies House says it will bring in verification for officers of corporate PSCs at a later date1,4.

Giving the code through Fileyear

Fileyear’s PSC code filing lists the company’s PSCs from the register, shows the window Companies House’s guidance gives for each, checks the code you enter and files the PSC verification statement.
