Fileyear’s guides explain UK company filing: what is due, when, and what happens if it’s late. Tax and filing mistakes cost real money, so this page sets out exactly how each guide is made, and what it does not claim.
Who writes them
Every guide carries the byline Fileyear team: the people who build Fileyear’s filing software. We are not accountants, tax advisers or solicitors. The team page says the same.
How a guide is made
- Sources first. We start from primary sources only: GOV.UK (including Companies House and HMRC guidance), the law itself on legislation.gov.uk, and HMRC’s internal manuals. Competitors’ blogs, forums and AI chat answers are never a source.
- Drafted with AI assistance. Articles are drafted with the help of AI tools, working from those sources.
- Fact-checked against the sources. Every figure, date, threshold, fee and rule in the draft is checked against GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk and HMRC manuals before it is published. Anything that can’t be traced to a source is cut. The sources are listed at the foot of each guide, with the date each was read.
- Worked out, not paraphrased. Where a guide gives a deadline or a tax figure in a worked example, it is computed with the same date and tax engine that Fileyear files with, so the guide and the product never disagree.
What the dates mean
Each guide shows Last checked with a date. That is the day every fact in it was last checked against its sources. We change the date only when we have checked the guide again, never to make a page look fresh. Guides about deadlines are re-checked at least once a year, and whenever HMRC or Companies House change a rule or a fee; our build refuses to publish a deadline guide whose last check is more than 12 months old.
What we never claim
- We never say a guide was “reviewed by an accountant” unless a named, qualified accountant actually reviewed it, and that person is credited on the page. Today no guide has had that review.
- We never invent quotes, case studies, customer numbers or statistics.
- We never state a competitor’s price without the source and the date we checked it.
- Fileyear’s own prices on these pages come straight from the same price list the checkout uses, never typed into an article.
Fileyear’s own product
Fileyear is the publisher, and each guide links to the one Fileyear filing it relates to. We say plainly when Fileyear is the wrong choice: for example, when a company needs an audit, has debts it can’t pay, or needs an insolvency practitioner. A guide’s advice is general information about the rules, not advice on your own situation.
Fileyear is independent software. It is not part of, or endorsed by, HMRC or Companies House.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it as soon as we can and add a dated “Corrected” note to the guide saying what changed. Tell us about a mistake through our complaints and contact page.
