File P11D and P11D(b)
If the company gave a director or employee a benefit that is not taxed through payroll, such as a company car, a van, a loan of more than £10,000, accommodation or private medical insurance, it reports it on a P11D for each person by 6 July after the tax year, and declares the total on a P11D(b) with Class 1A National Insurance at 15%, paid by 22 July. Fileyear works out each cash equivalent and the Class 1A and files them in one submission, for the year just ended or a late one.

Questions directors ask
When can I file the 2026-27 P11D?
HMRC takes P11Ds for 2026-27 from 6 April 2027. Fileyear holds what you enter until then. A late 2025-26 return can be filed now.
What is Class 1A?
Employer’s National Insurance on benefits, at 15% of their cash equivalent. The employee pays no National Insurance on them, only income tax through their tax code or Self Assessment.
How is a company car worked out?
Its list price (with accessories, less up to £5,000 they paid towards it) times a percentage set by its CO2 emissions, for the days it was available, less what they paid for private use. Private fuel the company paid for adds the car fuel benefit.
