Exporting on the day

In Shopify admin, open Products, then Inventory, choose all locations and export. The file lists each variant’s SKU and its on-hand quantity at each location; Fileyear adds the locations together. For costs, export Products too: it carries “Cost per item” for each variant where you’ve entered one.

When the year end has passed

Shopify can’t show stock for a past date. A careful estimate from today’s figures is acceptable if it’s reasonably accurate2: start from today’s export, add back what you’ve sold since the year end, and take off what you’ve received since. Keep your workings. A physical count close to the year end, adjusted the same way, is often easier.

On Fileyear

On the year-end questions, drop the inventory export or the product export (or our template), add a cost list for products without a cost, and confirm the total.

See Fileyear for online sellers for the supported stock, payout and bookkeeping inputs.
