Person with significant control (PSC)

A person with significant control (PSC) is someone who owns or controls a company. A PSC is usually anyone who has more than 25% of the shares or voting rights, can appoint or remove a majority of the directors, or can otherwise influence or control the company¹.

Why it matters

Companies register their PSCs at Companies House, and must report changes within 14 days of confirming them¹. PSCs must also verify their identity and give their Companies House personal code within their own 14-day period, which is separate from the directors’ confirmation statement deadline².
